Job summary

Mary Buren Elementary School | Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast is seeking a Youth Development Professional to support Guadalupe Jr High students. The role focuses on mentoring youth, planning engaging activities and creating a safe, welcoming space for learning and growth.

You’ll supervise sessions, assist with tutoring, and foster social‑emotional development while collaborating with families and school partners in a high‑energy environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience working directly with school-aged youth.
  • Enjoy mentoring, tutoring, coaching, leading activities or working with young people.
  • Ability to connect with youth while setting clear, positive expectations.
  • Dependable, responsible and able to work collaboratively with others.
  • Willing to complete applicable school district requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with youth and serve as a mentor and role model.
  • Plan and lead fun, educational and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Encourage youth to participate, try new things and develop confidence.
  • Provide positive behavior guidance and help youth strengthen social-emotional skills.
  • Actively supervise members and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Help with tutoring, mentoring and cooperative learning activities.
  • Communicate positively with youth, families, coworkers and school partners.
  • Keep program spaces organized, welcoming and ready for activities.
  • Maintain basic attendance, program and member records.
  • Participate in staff training and professional development.
