Job summary

Collins and Katz Family YMCA in Los Angeles, CA is seeking an Instructor for Youth Programs to foster positive relationships with children and families, implement topic-focused classes, and support a safe, inclusive learning environment.

The role emphasizes planning engaging activities, supervising children with appropriate ratios, and partnering with parents and staff to deliver quality program experiences in a community-focused YMCA setting.

Qualifications

• Age 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Units in CD, human services or related fields preferred.
• Previous experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
• Specialized skills: strong character values, strong communication skills, emotional maturity.
• Licenses & Certifications: First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR within 60 days of hire; child abuse prevention training; YMCA Leader Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and families.
• Maintains close visual supervision of a group of children and follows required ratios.
• Uses positive behavior supports, redirection, and constructive discipline.
• Supports inclusion and ADA compliance where appropriate.
• Plans and implements classes around specific topics and skill mastery, culminating in a showcase.
• Maintains safety, cleanliness, and required program records per YMCA standards.
• Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA; attends events and trainings.
