Job summary

NARA NW is seeking a Housing Specialist to support HUD Youth PSH efforts, serving young adults aged 18-24 in Portland. The role focuses on individualized housing plans, engaging with partners, and ensuring stable housing while guiding clients through the housing process and necessary funding steps.

The position emphasizes Motivational Interviewing, Housing First, and collaborative care with clinical supervision, property managers, and local providers to reduce homelessness and improve health

Qualifications

• QMHA credential required; if not credentialed, must obtain within 6 months of hire.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with homelessness or severe mental illness.
• Experience creating service plans, progress notes, and documentation.
• Knowledge of housing resources and recovery-based approaches to behavioral health.
• Excellent communication and initiative to coordinate care.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clients and NARA NW staff.
• Reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
• Able to pass pre-employment drug test, background and DMV checks.

Responsibilities

• Develop client-centered housing stability plans with program participants.
• Assist participants through housing process, including applications and move-in funding.
• Coordinate with providers and property managers to support housing retention.
• Provide home/community-based services using Motivational Interviewing and Housing First.
• Document housing-related plans, progress notes, and summaries.
• Meet regularly with clinical supervisor for supervision and guidance.
• Ensure safety and risk assessment; transport clients as needed.
