Job summary

The Salvation Army in Phoenix seeks a Guitar Instructor to develop lesson plans and teach beginners to intermediate students aged 8-14, focusing on chords, strumming and music reading. Classes meet Thursdays 6:00 PM–6:45 PM, requiring patience, creativity, and an engaging teaching style to build a supportive learning environment.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of teaching experience; related certification or degree is preferred.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old.
At least 2 years of prior experience teaching or working in the area of instruction specified preferred.
Certification or degree in a related field or level of expertise is preferred.
Must be able to function effectively with minimal or no supervision.
Must demonstrate various skills in the area of instruction specified.
Must read, write, and communicate in English; bilingual English-Spanish preferred.
Must work well with people.
Must be in good physical and mental health to meet job demands.
Must maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
Must pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Instruct with sound principles in the area of instruction specified.
Teach beginners through advanced learners in the area of instruction specified.
Provide individual guidelines for development in the area of instruction specified.
Write class outlines.
Create, teach, implement, and demonstrate planned practices and performances.
Follow safety precautions and ensure compliance by all class members.
Maintain a safe working environment and report issues to supervisors.
Generate accident and incident reports as required and notify appropriate personnel.
