Job summary

The Salvation Army Kansas City Corps is seeking a part-time music program instructor to work with children and adults, planning weekly lessons and teaching theory, performance skills, and values as part of the corps program.

You will lead classes, organize recitals, and help develop participants’ musical abilities while promoting the mission of The Salvation Army through education and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.
• Experience: A minimum of two years’ music experience working with children/adults.
• Certifications/Licenses: None
• Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument; strong leadership and organizational skills; team player and self-starter; positive attitude and flexibility; commitment to Salvation Army mission.

Responsibilities

• Lead music and arts programs within the corps as assigned.
• Plan and implement weekly music lesson curricula.
• Attend and plan corps recitals and participate in year-end concert.
• Encourage participants toward goals and self-esteem through music.
• Organize performances and community activities to promote the mission.
• Support campers in summer music programs and other activities.
