Job summary

Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family Services seeks a County Caseworker 1 to join a team protecting children by responding to concerns of abuse or neglect and linking families with supportive services.

You will conduct investigations, help families plan safety goals, maintain records for court, arrange placements when needed, and participate in team meetings to help families achieve stability. This is a full-time position with standard county hours; telework is not available.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences.
• Bachelor's degree with 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Responsibilities

• Case Investigation: Look into reports of child abuse or neglect to understand safety concerns
• Family Support: Offer services that help families prevent placement and strengthen stability
• Record Maintenance: Keep accurate agency records and prepare materials for court when needed
• Child Placement: Arrange placements and oversee children who are living outside their home
• Team Participation: Join conferencing and teaming meetings to help families set and reach goals
