Overview

PMC is a non-profit and charitable organization dedicated to fostering a harmonious multicultural society. Its core service pillars encompass the settlement and integration of newcomers to Canada, neighborhood development, health and wellness, education and training, as well as employment support.

The Youth Event Coordinator position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Candidates must fulfill the requirements specified by the funder (details available on the funder's site [LINK]). The youth event coordinator will oversee the planning and execution of a Youth Forum for the young community in Peel, including fundraising efforts. Additionally, they will handle all post-event reporting and networking activities, both within and outside the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a team to meticulously plan, organize, and execute PMC’s annual Youth Forum tailored for Peel's young community.
  • Source appropriate venues, manage equipment rentals, and coordinate the development of necessary materials.
  • Devise and implement fundraising strategies to ensure the event's successful delivery.
  • Coordinate with speakers and presenters to create event schedules that engage the audience.
  • Design and execute an event promotional strategy, producing essential promotional materials.
  • Conduct community outreach to boost youth participation and engagement in the event.
  • Collaborate with senior staff on event promotional materials and meet media requirements.
  • Support administrative and clerical tasks associated with organizing, presenting, and following up on the event.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in communication and networking, adept at identifying potential donors, sponsors, community partners, or event presenters.
  • Possesses advanced interpersonal skills, showcasing flexibility, adaptability, cultural understanding, and sensitivity to human services issues.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational abilities, capable of planning, prioritizing tasks, and effectively coordinating major or multiple projects.
  • Exhibits problem-solving skills, diplomacy, tact, attention to detail, and accuracy in tasks.
  • Displays good judgment, decision-making abilities, and a proactive approach.
  • Collaborates effectively within a team to achieve project goals and objectives
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (including Excel, Word, and Publisher) and adeptness with social media platforms.
  • Experience in fundraising activities and engaging with potential donors.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a post-secondary institution or a recent graduate.
  • Age between 18 and 30 at the start of employment (as per CSJ requirements)
  • Eligible as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or an individual granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment.
  • International students are not eligible participants.
  • Must possess a valid Social Insurance Number at the outset of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation.
  • Familiarity with issues impacting and relevant to the youth in the Peel region.
  • Willingness to actively engage in agency activities such as the AGM, Volunteer Appreciation Evening, and community forums.
Hours / Compensation:35 hrs / week $17.20 /hr – 8 Weeks Contract
