Job summary

The Columbus Metropolitan Library seeks a Youth Engagement Specialist at Northern Lights to create engaging programs for youth and caregivers, promote literacy, and deliver informal learning experiences aligned with the Young Minds Strategy.

This part-time role (20/24 hrs) offers diverse outreach, classroom and community collaboration, and opportunities to develop youth services skills while supporting library operations and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• 2–3 years’ experience working with youth or in community engagement.
• Experience delivering programs to diverse audiences preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to operate library technology and systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level customer service to youth and families.
• Create a safe, welcoming environment for youth development.
• Plan and present programs for children of all ages at the location and off-site.
• Answer questions and refer to information resources.
• Connect with schools and community organizations to promote Young Minds programs and services.
• Direct volunteer activities and scheduling.
• Maintain neat, attractive children’s and teen areas.
• Support library trainings and professional development conversations with staff.
• Operate library technology and follow procedures and policies.
• Assume operation of the location in the absence of a manager.
