Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Youth Engagement Specialist for the Main Library. This full-time, non-exempt role focuses on creating positive, enriching experiences for youth and caregivers through literacy programs and engaging, informal activities aligned with our Young Minds Strategy.

You will plan and present programs, build partnerships with schools and community groups, and manage juvenile materials while maintaining welcoming spaces and a strong customer-service mindset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 2–3 years’ experience with youth or community engagement.
• Experience delivering programs and services to diverse audiences.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to operate library technology and systems.

Responsibilities

• Proactively provides a high level of customer service by engaging youth and families in usage of library resources.
• Plans, promotes and presents programs and informal engagements for children and teens.
• Connects with schools and community organizations to promote Young Minds programs.
• Maintains a safe, welcoming environment and manages youth interactions and tensions.
• Performs collection management and creates displays for juvenile materials.
• Assumes responsibility for location operations in the absence of a manager.
