About the Role

About the Role Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Youth Development Officer to join their team in Welkom, Free State . This vital role focuses on empowering young people within the community by designing, implementing, and overseeing programs that foster personal growth, skill development, and positive social engagement. The Youth Development Officer will work closely with youth, community leaders, schools, and other stakeholders to identify needs and create opportunities for development. Responsibilities include organizing workshops, mentoring programs, recreational activities, and educational initiatives aimed at equipping youth for future success. The ideal candidate will be passionate about youth empowerment, possess strong leadership qualities, and have a deep understanding of the challenges and aspirations of young people in the Free State region. This is an on-site position, requiring active participation and presence within the Welkom community, fostering direct connections and impactful interventions. We are looking for a motivated individual eager to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage youth programs focused on education, skills training, leadership, and personal development.
• Organize and facilitate workshops, mentoring sessions, and group activities for young people.
• Collaborate with local schools, community centers, and NGOs to identify and engage youth participants.
• Conduct needs assessments to understand the specific challenges and interests of the youth population in Welkom .
• Provide guidance and support to youth, helping them set goals and navigate pathways to education and employment.
• Monitor program effectiveness and collect data to report on outcomes and impact.
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers involved in youth programs.
• Represent our client at community events and meetings related to youth development.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all young participants.
• Stay informed about current trends and best practices in youth development and social work.

Requirements

• A qualification in Social Work, Youth Development, Education, Community Development, or a related field.
• Proven experience in youth work, program coordination, or community development.
• Strong understanding of adolescent psychology and development.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds.
• Organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Experience in report writing and data collection.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Passion for youth empowerment and community building.
• Local knowledge of Welkom and the surrounding Free State area is an advantage.
