Job summary

The Lead Youth Development Professional at the Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Plains leads daily youth programming in Brookings, SD, ensuring a safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate Club environment. This role provides direct supervision of youth and supports Youth Development Professionals through coaching, feedback, and guidance.

Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, maintaining safety standards, and modeling Club values.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment, training provided in-house if needed.
• Commitment to working four days a week.
• Able to work during school year and summer operating hours at the Club.
• Ability to understand, implement, and demonstrate behavior management principles and Club values.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of daily programs, activities, and events.
• Provide direct supervision of youth and coaching support to Youth Development Professionals.
• Maintain active supervision and uphold safety standards and policies.
• Ensure spaces are clean, welcoming, and safe for all members.
• Provide real-time and follow-up feedback to staff and volunteers.
• Model professionalism and Club values in all interactions.
• Communicate openly with supervisors and staff; report needs and progress.
• Facilitate activities that build confidence, social skills, leadership, and teamwork.
• Encourage fair play, respect, and positive decision-making.
• Complete attendance, incident reports, assessments, and behavioral notes.
• Attend required meetings and collaborate on performance goals.
