Job summary

The Middletown Family YMCA, part of the YMCA of Delaware, seeks a Director of Youth Development to lead programs, safety, staff development, and community engagement at the Middletown site. Responsibilities include program design, enrollment growth, budget oversight, compliance, and delivering high‑quality youth experiences.

You will supervise staff and volunteers, ensure safe operations, partner with families and schools, and drive mission‑driven impact evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or associate degree in early childhood education, youth development, recreation, sports management, or related field.
• Four or more years of experience in youth development, childcare, camp, sports, recreation, or related program management.
• Experience supervising, developing, and evaluating staff.
• Experience planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating youth programs.
• Strong interpersonal communication with diverse families and staff.
• Ability to lead programs through staffing, budget, and growth initiatives.
• Ability to build partnerships with schools, families, and community groups.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and oversight for youth development programs (BASE/Day Camp, Teen/Youth Sports).
• Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates comprehensive youth programs.
• Plans activities, events, trips, and ensures staffing, supplies, and operations.
• Monitors program effectiveness, enrollment, and outcomes; recommends improvements.
• Maintains accurate program records for compliance and evaluation.
• Supports staff through observing, coaching, and scheduling during hours including evenings and weekends.
