Job summary

Good Shepherd Services is seeking a Per Diem Youth Development Counselor for the Green House program in the Bronx. The role involves direct supervision, behavior management, and group/individual counseling with residents, along with developing treatment plans and coordinating with families when appropriate.

Hours are 17-20 per week, on-site, non-exempt. Salary ranges $20–$22 per hour based on experience; on-site duties include transportation and attendance at required trainings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Associate or Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
• Must complete and pass the program’s designated behavior management/physical intervention training.
• Capable of sustained physical exertion and must not have conditions preventing physical intervention.
• Commitment to use The Missouri Model.
• Commitment to a strength-based, youth development and trauma-informed perspective.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and be accountable for the whereabouts of residents at all times.
• Manage residents' behavior; maintain order.
• Implement daily living routines, schedules and procedures.
• Ensure the safety of the residents and maintain security and high standard of cleanliness throughout the house.
• Provide individual and group counseling for residents and, when appropriate, work with residents' families and participate in the development and execution of treatment plans including home visits and recreational activities.
• Maintain records, logs, reports and adhere to documentation requirements.
• Participate in planning and execution of educational, recreational, and personal enrichment activities.
• Ensure proper care and supervision of supplies and Agency equipment.
• Participate in ongoing meetings, conferences and training programs.
• Interact and communicate with Good Shepherd staff regarding residents and the program in general.
• Provide safe transportation for residents.
• Escort residents to and from court, school and other appointments.
• Attend all mandatory training required by ACS and GSS.
• Responsible for adhering to all pertinent ACS regulations.
• Use the Missouri model of group treatment.
• Use and practice the Sanctuary Model tools to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
• Promote and model the Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
• Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
