Job summary

St. Clair County (IL) is seeking a Transportation Officer to supervise and transport youth in detention, ensuring safe custody and compliance with established procedures. The role requires discipline, strong communication, and the ability to respond to crises with minimal force.

The officer will work under the Director of Court Services and Probation, coordinating with a Shift Supervisor. A six-month probationary period may apply, with responsibilities including transport, safety, and teamwork

Qualifications

• Obtain a HS diploma or the equivalent.
• Be a resident of St. Clair County within six months of appointment, a U.S. citizen, and resident of Illinois within 90 days of appointment.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Possess strong time management and organization skills.
• Possess a valid Driver’s License.
• Considerable knowledge of security procedures and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, care, transportation, and secure custody for youth held in detention.
• Transport residents via passenger vehicles to courts, jails, prisons, medical centers, and other specified locations.
• Maintain safe and secure transport of juveniles as directed.
• Attend staff meetings and/or training programs as assigned by the Superintendent.
• Demonstrate support for fellow employees during the performance of the job.
