Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Public Safety is seeking Youth Counselor Technician Trainees to support Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention. This direct-care role supervises court-involved youth in Youth Development Centers and Juvenile Detention Centers, including daily activities, safety, and order.

New hires start at step pay with annual increases, may qualify for a $3,000 sign-on bonus, and weekend/holiday shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED; must document education and work history on the application.
• Ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing.
• You must be physically capable of restraining juveniles after proper training; interview will cover physical demands.

Responsibilities

• Directly monitor and supervise juveniles in Youth Development Centers and Juvenile Detention Centers.
• Duties include housekeeping, physical/medical restraint, and recreational activities.
• Maintain safety, security, cleanliness, and document safety violations and progress.
