Job summary

North Carolina Department of Public Safety seeks a Youth Counselor (S) to supervise court-involved youth, provide counseling, and support treatment planning within a secure facility. The role emphasizes safety, documentation, crisis intervention, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

The position offers full-time work, a shift-based schedule (including weekends/holidays), and a step pay plan with annual increases. Initial pay aligns with the state salary schedule for Step 0–6 levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and two years related experience, or equivalent combination.
• Must be able to physically restrain juveniles and defend self after proper training.
• Shift work, weekends and holidays; possible shift premium (10%).

Responsibilities

• Monitor and supervise juveniles while housed, at school and during daily activities.
• Maintain a secure environment and document safety violations and progress.
• Provide counseling and therapeutic intervention; participate in treatment teams and develop individual plans.
