Job summary

North Carolina Department of Public Safety seeks a Youth Counselor Technician to provide transportation and direct supervision at Juvenile Detention Centers. You will support court-ordered visits, maintain secure and non-secure transport, and ensure vehicle readiness.

The role requires an Associate degree or equivalent experience, ability to restrain youth when trained, and strong communication skills. A sign-on bonus and referral incentives accompany a full-time schedule with State benefits.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of related human services experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing.
• Must meet state requirements for Juvenile Justice Officers (background check, training).

Responsibilities

• Transport and supervise juveniles to court hearings, detention centers, and appointments.
• Monitor youths in custody and provide non-secure transportation as needed.
• Inspect vehicles, perform preventative maintenance, and maintain trip documentation.
• Conduct vehicle searches for contraband and monitor equipment (gas, oil, tires).
