MPA Plymouth serves adolescent males in residential treatment, and the youth counselor position is vital to supporting mental and behavioral health needs.

Our programming provides youth development services, focusing on building meaningful relationships, personal growth, and helping youth realize their potential. Youth Counselor Summary:

Our program offers youth development services that foster meaningful relationships, personal growth, and potential realization. As a Youth Residential Counselor, you will be central to fulfilling this mission and will have opportunities for professional development and positive influence on residents’ lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor students, model appropriate behavior, redirect, and manage crises.
  • Implement social and recreational activities as part of programming.
  • Provide care and psychosocial education per individual treatment plans.
  • Deliver daily living skills training, assist with meals, hygiene, recreation, and community reintegration.
  • Develop social, interpersonal, and coping skills through respectful relationships.
  • Serve as a positive role model, fostering trust and growth.
  • Teach respectful communication and authority recognition.
  • Offer emotional stability during crises.
  • Help students develop coping mechanisms for high-stress situations.
  • Manage residential routines with planning and intention.
  • Attend shifts punctually and manage time effectively.
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings and program planning.
  • Encourage environmental stewardship and self-care among students.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of trauma, mental health, and risk factors.
  • Learn and adhere to the residential treatment model and program policies.
  • Document service delivery and incidents accurately and timely.
  • Engage in professional development and seek supervision.
  • Manage personal stress and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree, or 60 college credits
  • OR 2 years of full-time experience working with children
  • OR combined credits and experience totaling 2 years
  • OR 7 years of parenting experience

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license preferred; must be 21+
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Satisfactory background checks and pre-employment screening
