Job summary

The Children's Home of Reading Youth & Family Services seeks a Youth Counselor to supervise youth in a structured residential setting and provide mentorship and guidance daily.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to support treatment plans, safety, and skill-building, while maintaining documentation and collaborating with staff. The role emphasizes compassion, dependability, and strong communication to help youths thrive.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or two years of college in a social or human services-related field OR
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with at least two years of experience working with youth
  • Must be at least 21 years of age; valid driver's license; basic computer skills
  • Must clear background checks including FBI and child abuse clearances

Responsibilities

  • Supervise residents in a structured residential program and maintain safety.
  • Mentor and support youth, building positive relationships and role modeling.
  • Support treatment plans, behavior goals, and independent living skills.
  • Maintain accurate records and collaborate with clinical and case-management staff.

What You'll Do

As a Youth Counselor, you'll provide supervision, mentoring, guidance, and support to youth in a structured residential treatment program. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you'll help create a safe, therapeutic environment where youth can grow and succeed.

Resident Care & Supervision
  • Supervise residents while maintaining a safe and structured environment.
  • Build trusting relationships through positive role modeling and mentorship.
  • Ensure the safety and security of residents and the facility.
Behavioral & Therapeutic Support
  • Supervise youth during school, recreation, appointments, community outings, and daily activities.
  • Support individualized treatment plans and behavioral goals.
  • Encourage positive decision-making and independent living skills.
Documentation & Team Collaboration
  • Maintain accurate Electronic Health Records (EHR) and required documentation.
  • Complete incident reports and resident progress notes.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and fellow team members.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.

  • Full-Time
  • Must be available to work all three shifts (6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am), including weekends
