Job summary

The Children's Home of Reading Youth & Family Services (CHOR YFS) is seeking a dedicated Youth Counselor for a full-time role in Philadelphia, PA. You will supervise youth in a residential setting, provide mentorship, and support therapeutic activities within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent work with youth in a social/human services field is required.
• Experience with youth and ability to work in residential settings preferred.
• Proven interpersonal and communication skills for teamwork with clinicians and families.

Responsibilities

• Supervise residents and maintain a safe, structured environment.
• Mentor youth and model positive behavior within a treatment program.
• Ensure safety of residents and facility, including incident reporting.
• Support youth during school, recreation, appointments, and community activities.
• Assist with treatment plans and behavior goals, documenting progress in EHR.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and team members; attend trainings.

What You'll Do

As a Youth Counselor, you'll provide supervision, mentoring, guidance, and support to youth in a structured residential treatment program. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you'll help create a safe, therapeutic environment where youth can grow and succeed.

Your responsibilities include:

Resident Care & Supervision

• Supervise residents while maintaining a safe and structured environment.
• Build trusting relationships through positive role modeling and mentorship.
• Ensure the safety and security of residents and the facility.

Behavioral & Therapeutic Support

• Supervise youth during school, recreation, appointments, community outings, and daily activities.
• Support individualized treatment plans and behavioral goals.
• Encourage positive decision-making and independent living skills.
• Maintain accurate Electronic Health Records (EHR) and required documentation.
• Complete incident reports and resident progress notes.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and fellow team members.
• Attend required meetings and trainings.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or two years of college in a social or human services-related field OR
• High school diploma (or equivalent) with at least two years of experience working with youth

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Valid driver's license required
• Basic computer skills
• Must successfully pass criminal background (including FBI) and child abuse clearances
• Full-Time
• Must be available to work all three shifts (6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am), including weekends
