Job summary

New York Edge in New York, NY is seeking a part-time Cosmetology Specialist to support Far Rockaway sites. You will organize, lead, and promote interest in cosmetology while aligning lessons with the New York State Arts Learning Standards and the NY Edge curriculum.

The instructor will serve as a model and inspiration for students, delivering sequential lesson plans, preparing materials, and maintaining a safe, engaging learning environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; some college preferred
• Minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience
• Minimum of one year of teaching experience
• Passion for New York Edge's mission and youth development
• Candidates able to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities such as Cosmetology.
• Organize performance groups and direct their rehearsals.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
• Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet students' needs.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants and demonstrate the use of materials.
• Evaluate activities to determine if they are producing desired results.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet students' needs and interests.
• Progressive development of student skills toward a final project
• May be required to walk up and down stairs.
