Job summary

New York Edge in New York City seeks a passionate Cosmetology Specialist to organize, lead, and promote cosmetology arts within after-school programs. You will follow the New York Edge curriculum, prepare classrooms, and guide students through nail technology, hair styling, and other beauty courses while ensuring safety and engagement after school hours.

The role requires building lesson plans, managing student progress, coordinating demonstrations, and maintaining a positive, inclusive learning

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred.
• A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
• A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required.
• Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development.
• Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce behavior rules and classroom order.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities such as Cosmetology.
• Organize performance groups and direct rehearsals.
• Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
• Assess group interests, equipment, and adapt activities to meet students' needs.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants and demonstrate use of materials.
• Evaluate activities to determine if desired results are achieved.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students' needs.
• Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project.
