Job summary

The Urbandale Public Library is seeking a detail-oriented Youth Collection Library Assistant to join the Technical Services Department. This role blends behind-the-scenes collection management with direct public service, ensuring children’s and teen materials are accessible, well-maintained, and responsive to community needs.

Under the Library Manager, you will acquire, process, organize, and track purchases, maintain inventory, and assist patrons at the public desk.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of customer service or administrative experience; library experience preferred.
• Ability to use computers and troubleshoot common technical issues.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with library vendors, tracks orders and expenditures.
• Manages acquisition, processing, cataloging, and inventory of materials.
• Assist patrons at the public service desk and support youth programming.
• Maintain accurate inventory and item records and generate reports.
• Sort and prepare donated materials for book sales.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development activities.
• Support children’s and teen collections within budget guidelines.
