Job summary

Hoyleton Youth And Family Services seeks a Youth Care Worker- Residential Cook to prepare meals for cottages and support residents with daily therapeutic programming under supervision. This role emphasizes engaging youth in meaningful activities, documenting interactions per Medicaid Rule 140, and applying CARE and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) approaches to build safe, supportive relationships.

Qualifications

• Food Service Sanitation Certification through the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) within 90 days of hire
• Basic skills in first aid and identification of medical needs
• Ability to learn the CARE practice model and implement daily programming consistent with CARE principles
• Ability to learn the TCI curriculum and pass TCI tests and maintain refresher training
• Complete CARE training and certification and maintain annual TCI recertification
• Remain awake and alert for entirety of scheduled shifts to ensure client safety
• Enjoy actively engaging youth, demonstrate emotional maturity, patience, and empathy
• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and build positive relationships with youth
• Meet all DCFS/CANTS clearance requirements
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license and insurance

Responsibilities

• Prepares nutritious and attractive meals and snacks according to menus that meet state health standards and regulations
• Plans and orders food and related supplies for meal preparation, including menus for evenings and weekends
• Prepares special meals at various holidays and events
• Ensures proper storage of all food items and disposes of unused food
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation standards per local health department regulations
• Provides direction and oversight to cottage residents to develop cooking and cleaning skills, responds to behavioral issues, may participate in client restraint
• Maintains accurate and timely records per agency policies and state requirements
• Engages youth in daily therapeutic activities to develop social, emotional and life skills aligned with CARE goals
• Ensures safety and well-being of youth and staff; builds relationships; understands trauma history and triggers; anticipates crises and uses TCI de-escalation techniques; uses TCI restraints when needed; supports relationship repair with Life Space Interviews
• Completes daily hours of care by documenting Medicaid-compliant interventions
• Participates with supervisor and youth in planning schedules of activities for each shift
• Engages in reflective practice via weekly supervision
• Participates in clinical staffings, cottage meetings and other required meetings; completes trainings
• During overnight shifts, conducts bed checks every 15 minutes and engages youth therapeutically at bedtime
• Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisory and Administrative staff
