Job summary

The Children’s Home of Reading is seeking a Youth Behavioral Specialist for the 3rd shift to ensure the safety and well-being of residents at 1010 Centre Ave, Reading, PA. This full-time, non-exempt role requires adherence to staffing ratios, documentation in EHR, and active supervision of residents during activities and community outings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid Driver's License and clean driving record (preferred).
• Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or any Human Services field.
• Associate's degree with at least 1 year experience working with youth.
• High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of experience working with youth.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening and background checks.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security of residents and facility.
• Comply with staffing ratios and attend required meetings.
• Document resident behaviors and safety checks in Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Complete daily shift notes, activity notes, and communication logs.
• Supervise residents during activities and ensure program policies are followed.
• Implement behavior modification programs per policies and treatment plans.
• Overnight duties include 15-minute checks, documentation, and housekeeping tasks.
• Assist with admissions and community outings while prioritizing safety.

What You’ll Do

As a Youth Behavioral Specialist, you will:

• Maintain safety and security of residents and facility.
• Maintain compliance with staffing ratios at all times, including mandated overtime, moving to other units as requested, and attending/participating in all clinical/case management group is fulfilled.
• Utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) to document resident behaviors, visitation safety checks (in-house and community outings), and any applicable service
• Complete daily shift notes, activity notes, and communication logs, including justification for any behavioral interventions.
• Supervises residents while following program policies and assuring compliance with Sanctuary principles.
• Actively (via participation or close monitoring) supervises residents during recreational activities and provides instruction when necessary.
• Supervises residents during academic instruction, handling behavioral issues.
• Closely supervises residents while in the community, prioritizing community safety at all times.
• Implements behavior modification program (point system) in accordance with program policies, philosophy, and treatment plans.
• Overnight shift duties include the following: perform 15 minute checks on all residents, paperwork (make copies), and clean and organize unit areas.
• Ensures safe evacuation of residents during emergencies and fire drills.
• Record reports (i.e. Incident Reports, Restrictive Procedure Reports, etc) in a professional and timely manner.
• Plans and implements organized activities for the residents.
• Physically restrains residents (only when necessary in order to ensure safety) following Safe Crisis Management training in accordance with program policies.
• Oversees resident health and hygiene.
• Completes room and personal searches in accordance with program policies, documenting all according to program policies.
• Attends all required meetings and trainings.
• Works on all residential units and educational placements.
• Maintains building cleanliness as needed such as taking out unit trash and taking used towels/sheets to laundry, performing light maintenance and building improvements, primarily during overnight shifts.
• Transports clients in company vehicles, as needed.
• Professionally represents agency.
• Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.

Third Shift YBS additional responsibilities

• Complete bed checks at minimum every 15 minutes utilizing documentation.
• Assist the third shift supervisor with preparing for new admissions.
• Assist the third shift supervisor with preparing for client birthdays.
• Ensure staff office is organized daily.
• Inventory unit supplies regularly. Alert third shift supervisor of needed items.
• Update whiteboards with daily points changes.

Qualifications

Required:

• Must be at least 21 Years of Age
• Valid Driver's License and clean driving record. (preferred)
• Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or any Human Services field. (highly preferred)
• Associate's degree with at least 1 year experience working with youth. (accepted)
• Highschool Diploma or GED with 1 year of experience working with youth. (accepted)
• Must past all pre-employment physical, drug screening includes background clearances (Child, Criminal, FBI, and DMV)
• Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
• Ability to demonstrate basic oral, written, and verbal communication.
• Must attend all required trainings followed by shadowing prior to working on the unit.
• Ability to work effectively among various levels of behaviors and maintain an atmosphere of safety, support, and guidance to ensure a positive environment.

Schedule

• Full-Time
• 3rd Shift – 10:00pm-6:00am
• All shift's include weekends, (discussed during interview)

Physical Requirements

• The employee is required to stand, walk, run, use hands and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee must have the physical ability to restrain a resident while utilizing the tenets of Safe Crisis Management training.
• The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, see, taste, and smell.
