Job Summary

The Youth Attendant provides safe, fun care to the children of Houstonian Club Members when they are in the care of the Youth Department. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Essential Job Functions

• Interact positively and appropriately with children in our care.
• Follow parent-set restrictions and guidelines for each child.
• Supervise and ensure the safety of children.
• Follow departmental and parental instructions for mealtimes, snacks, and hygiene.
• Assist with diaper changes for infants and toddlers.
• Utilize Youth Department resources to offer various activities promoting physical activity, play, and rest.
• Monitor children for signs of hunger, fatigue, or other needs requiring adult intervention.
• Maintain records of children’s interests, milestones, and notable moments.
• Report low supplies for timely replenishment.
• Keep play areas, furniture, and toys organized, clean, and sanitized.
• Ensure floors are free of debris and hazards.
• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of play structures and furniture.
• Assist with setup, cleanup, and activities during events like children’s birthday parties.
• Ensure safety on the Bouldering Wall, including equipment checks and safety practices.
• Report incidents to supervisors promptly.
• Perform other relevant tasks as directed by management.

Knowledge and Skills

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Previous childcare experience preferred.
• Ability to learn safety protocols, including for the Bouldering Wall.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities calmly and effectively.
• Flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
• Ability to operate the Youth Department computer system.

Certifications

• Current Adult/Child CPR and First Aid certification required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, reach, lift up to 30 lbs, and perform physical activities for an 8-hour shift.
• Effective communication skills using hearing and speech.
• Ability to read instructions, reports, and operate in varying lighting conditions.
• Work safely with chemicals per SDS and regulations.
