Job summary

York County Government is seeking a dedicated professional to plan, organize, and direct community service and volunteer activities for Youth Development Center residents. The role includes covering Shelter units when staffing is short, building partnerships, and coordinating volunteer opportunities.

The position emphasizes interaction with community groups, adherence to licensing policies, and mentoring youth through education and engagement activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with children, or an Associate's degree/60 credits with three years experience.
  • Must obtain child abuse and criminal history clearances as required by law.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • English reading/writing/speaking fluency required.
  • Must pass health examination initially and every two years.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with residents, public or private agencies, and the general public with tact and professionalism.
  • Act as liaison between the Center and community volunteers and guests.
  • Identify and coordinate volunteer service opportunities for residents.
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities for community volunteers to provide support to the Center.
  • Must pass the Safe Crisis Management course under the direction of a certified instruction.
  • Ability to effectively utilize de-escalation techniques.
  • Ensure fellow staff comply with operational procedures within the community in accordance with licensing regulations and facility policy.
  • Administer medications as needed in the absence of the facility nurse and applies health, safety, first aid, and personal hygiene practices as needed.
  • Respond to crisis behaviors as manifested by emotionally challenged youth and models individualized approach to children as needed.
  • Research and participate in County/State or other professional studies for the improvement and advancement of all facility programs and activities.
  • Develop programming that engages youth in educational studies and community activities.
  • Coordinate in-service programs assisting counselors and other personnel in educating facility youth.
  • Participate in inter-agency planning to increase opportunities for community participation and interaction with Center programming.
  • Must report any arrests, convictions, or infractions of the law to the facility Director.
  • Normal work hours will be 8AM-4 PM, but schedule is flexible, including but not limited to, when unforeseen events take place leading to a shortage of staff stationed within the building.
  • Must be able to build a network of community organizations and businesses that will assist in providing life skills, employment opportunities, and partnerships that will provide support for the youth served at YDC.
  • Must exhibit strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, communicate, and oversee multiple projects for the various programs offered at YDC.
  • Responsible for tracking and measuring the outcomes of job placement and community outreach.
  • Must utilize the tools and practices of the Sanctuary Model to include the 7 commitments, the S.E.L.F. model, red flag reviews, safety plans, and community meetings in their day-to-day interactions with kids, counselors, management, and the community.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned by Senior Management.
