Job summary

City of Oxnard is seeking an After School Program Specialist to coordinate and oversee the Oxnard Scholars and Hueneme SHINE programs. The role focuses on delivering safe, engaging, and enriching activities for youth, supervising staff and volunteers, and maintaining program data.

The position reports to Recreation analysts and supervisors, with regular meetings and professional development. The normal work week is Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm, with no hybrid/remote option.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus 3 years related experience or para-educator exam requirement.
• Associate’s degree (60 units) plus 1 year related experience and para-educator exam.
• Note: Educational incentive benefit requires a Bachelor's degree or higher.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates after-school programming at designated school site.
• Reports to the Recreation Analyst and Supervisor overseeing the program.
• Communicates daily with site instructors, office staff, administration, teacher Liaison, parents, and students.
• Plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the program based on program expectations and standards.
• Exercises supervision over students, instructors, and volunteers.
• Sets program rules to create a positive, safe, and active environment.
• Monitors discipline and assists staff in resolving concerns.
• Attends meetings with principals, district personnel, and City program management.
• Keeps records and tracks attendance and program data.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience equivalent to a Recreation Aide/After School Program Instructor for the City of Oxnard in area of assignment and pass the para-educator exam.

Associate’s degree (or 60 units) in a related field, and one (1) year of related experience equivalent to a Recreation Aide/After School Program Instructor for the City of Oxnard in area of assignment and pass the para-educator exam.
