Job summary

The City of Hampton is hiring a Community Center Specialist to organize and implement a comprehensive year-round recreation program for citizens of all ages in Hampton. The role works under general supervision, developing methods and schedules, and supervises instructors and part-time staff.

This position requires an associate degree or two years of college in recreation/physical education, along with two years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or two years of college in Recreation, Physical Education or related field.
• Two years of full-time equivalent experience in recreation work at a professional or paraprofessional level.
• Therapeutic Recreation: minimum one year experience, including adaptive education, etc.
• Combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Must possess or obtain CPR/First Aid within 90 days of employment.
• CTRS certification is preferred for Therapeutic Recreation.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances.
• Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
• Requires shift work including some nights, weekends and holidays.
• May require some local travel.
• Incumbent may be considered essential personnel during city emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Organize and implement a comprehensive year-round recreation program for citizens of all ages in the City of Hampton.
• Supervise non-departmental instructors, volunteers and part-time staff.
• Work under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
• Provide and conduct a complete program of recreational activities for citizens of all ages.
