Job summary

Federal Express Corporation is seeking a Yard Switcher / Package Handler to move trailers within the yard and assist with loading/unloading packages. The role involves hooking/unhooking trailers, coordinating movements with management, and documenting actions with the Yard Management System or switcher cards.

Responsibilities include pre/post-trip inspections, following safety procedures, and performing hand-to-surface package handling, lifting, and sorting of items as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information in order to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Moves trailers between yard and doors; performs hooking and unhooking of parked trailers.
• Communicates with management to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Loads and unloads packages onto/from delivery vehicles and conveyor system carts.
• Sorts packages by scanning labels and memorizing information; uses appropriate conveyors.
