Job summary

Federal Express Corporation in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Switcher/Package Handler to move trailers between yards and loading docks and to assist with loading and unloading packages. You will work with yard management systems and follow safety procedures.

No experience is required; up to six months is preferred. A valid driver;s license and ability to lift and move packages in a fast-paced environment are essential. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

• No experience required; six months of experience as a package handler or switcher/CDL operator preferred.
• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to discern numbers and sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Moves trailers between yard and doors as defined, and may assist with loading/unloading packages.
• Communicates with management to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Assists with handling and sorting packages by hand as needed.
