Job summary

FedEx is seeking a yard switcher/package handler to manage trailer movements between yards and doors. The role includes coordinating in the yard, documenting movements, and conducting safety inspections to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Responsibilities include hand loading/unloading, sorting packages by scanning and charts, and working in a fast-paced environment. No education required; six months of related experience preferred.

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform trailer switches by hooking and moving a parked trailer from yard to load/unload door or back to yard.
• Communicate with management to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Follow yard switching safety processes and procedures.
• Load and unload packages by hand as needed, using hand-to-surface methods.
• Load/unload packages onto/from delivery vehicles, trailers, conveyor carts and load gratings.
• Lift, carry, push and pull packages repeatedly for two to four hour shifts.
• Sort packages by scanning labels and reading charts while verifying numbers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
