Job summary

Bigge Crane and Rigging is seeking a Yard Assistant in Houston, TX to support the lifting and movement of heavy equipment. You will inspect rigging gear, plan lifts, and attach loads using various rigging tools to ensure safe and precise operations.

The role emphasizes proper hand signals to operators, adherence to safety procedures, and teamwork within a large crane fleet. A high school diploma is required and benefits include competitive pay, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health savings

Qualifications

• Knowledge of rigging equipment and capacities.
• Strong teamwork and communication.
• Familiar with standard hand signals used by crane operators.
• Experience with lift planning and load/calculation considerations.
• Basic arithmetic for lift planning.
• Willingness to follow safety procedures and directives.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain rigging gear and equipment.
• Assist in lift planning and assess load weights and equipment capacity.
• Attach loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables and other rigging gear.
• Guide loads with ropes during lifting and positioning.
• Act as safety observer during lifts and communicate with operators via signals.
• Position and stabilize loads, including climbing structures if needed.
• Assist with connecting and detaching loads from equipment.
• Place and remove outrigger pads and assist crane assembly/disassembly.
• Operate forklifts, cranes, and trailers to move crane parts in the yard.
