Job summary

Good Shepherd Fence Company in Indiana seeks a highly organized Yard & Materials Manager to run the yard, warehouse, and inventory. You will ensure crews have materials, equipment, and support to stay productive and safe, coordinating deliveries and maintaining fleet readiness.

You will lead yard staff, manage counts, improve systems, and collaborate with PMs, sales, and purchasing to meet project needs and sustain efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience managing a warehouse, yard, logistics, inventory, or construction materials.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience (certification preferred).
  • Working knowledge of construction tools, equipment, trailers, and power tools.
  • Strong understanding of fencing materials and hardware or willingness to become an expert.
  • Ability to read work orders, material lists, blueprints, and job specifications.
  • Ability to determine labor, equipment, and material needs for multiple crews.
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and inventory management software.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure.
  • Ability to regularly lift, push, pull, or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all daily yard and warehouse operations.
  • Lead and supervise yard personnel.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of fencing materials, hardware, gates, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure all crew trucks are properly loaded and ready each morning.
  • Coordinate deliveries to jobsites throughout Indiana and surrounding states.
  • Receive, inspect, unload, and organize incoming material shipments.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Sales, Purchasing, and Field Operations to prioritize material needs.
  • Maintain forklifts, trailers, company vehicles, and yard equipment.
  • Manage fleet organization and equipment accountability.
  • Develop and improve inventory control systems.
  • Conduct routine inventory counts and minimize material loss.
  • Keep the yard clean, organized, professional, and OSHA compliant.
  • Assist with vendor relationships and purchasing.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Support emergency deliveries to jobsites when necessary.
  • Continuously improve operational efficiency throughout the organization.

We're looking for a highly organized, hands-on Yard & Materials Manager who takes pride in building efficient systems, leading by example, and ensuring our crews have the materials, equipment, and support they need to succeed every day.

This position is responsible for overseeing our warehouse, material inventory, fleet readiness, equipment, deliveries, and yard operations while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized facility. Your leadership directly impacts our productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
