Job Description:
SUMMARY
Performsduties and otherwise assists in the care and maintenance of College grounds andbuildings at assigned locations. Work isoften performed in harsh outdoor weather environments including sun, heat,cold, snow, wind, rain, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Dutiesand Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Mow andfertilize turf, apply pesticide, and perform general grounds maintenance. Operates the necessary equipment neededfor these tasks including, but not limited to, riding lawn mower, tractor,front end loader, back hoe, dump truck, roller, power sprayer, stumpgrinder, cherry picker, vehicle trailer and various other utility vehicleswith attachments.
- Removesnow from roadways, parking lots, walkways, and building entrances.Operate the necessary equipment needed for these tasks including, but notlimited to snowplow truck, salt spreader, front end loader, MT tracklessvehicle (or “sidewalk” machine), snowblower, hand shovel.
- Clean,inspect, and maintain grounds equipment, tools and vehicles. Follow basicmaintenance procedures as listed in each equipment operator’s manual.Basic tasks include but are not limited to: checking fluids, lubricatingwear points, sharpening mower blades, adjusting mower deck height,calibrating spreaders/sprayers, etc. Report any equipment problems to thesupervisor.
- Collects and disposes rubbish daily.
- Weed eradication (spraying &pulling), fertilizing, reseeding and watering of turf.
- Install and maintain flower bedsincluding edging, mulching, planting, and weeding.
- Install, maintain, transplant, andremove shrubs, hedges, trees and other plantings.
- Maintainand repair athletic fields. Measure and paint (or chalk) lines as needed.
- Operateand adjust turf irrigation systems
- Paint outdooritems including but not limited to: curbs, crosswalks, posts, and traffic markinglines in parking areas and pavement.
- Maintain and repair sidewalks,secondary roads, and parking lots.
- Worksunder the direction of Maintenance Mechanic(s) on large projects asrequired.
- Meetsall job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards thatpertain to the essential functions of the position.
- Accessesand utilizes College-prescribed software programs, including but notlimited to training, email, payroll and maintenance managementsystem.
- Performsother related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Two (2)years of work experience in the care and maintenance of grounds includingturf and flower beds.
- Two (2)years of work experience in operation of various types of grounds keepingand snowplowing equipment
- Abilityto understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Abilityto properly use related equipment.
- Abilityto read and follow detailed work and safety instructions.
- Abilityto work independently.
- Skillsin keyboarding, basic math and grammar, and basic or standard wordprocessing (MS Word) and/or spreadsheet applications (MS Excel).
- Proficiencywith an email software package (MS Outlook) and the Internet.
- Must beable to meet College insurability requirements.
- Must beat least 18 years of age.
- Musthave sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of the community.
Preferred
- Associate’sdegree in a job-related field.
- Experiencesnow plowing in a commercial environment
- Experiencein pruning trees and shrubs.
- Experiencewith electronic work order system.
- Tradelicensure or certification.
- LTO(Lift-Truck-Operator) license.
- Abilityto perform work in welding.
- Completedvocational or apprenticeship program
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICALDEMANDS
Mustbe able to occasionally climb or balance, taste and smell. Must be able to regularly stand, walk, sit, stoop,kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear. Mustbe able to frequently reach with hands and arms. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50pounds without assistance. Must be ableto occasionally work in wet or humid conditions, work in high places, work withtoxic or caustic chemicals and bio-hazards. Must be able to frequently work withfumes or airborne particles and vibrations. Must be able to frequently work near moving mechanical parts and inoutdoor weather conditions. Must be able to work in an environment with a loudnoise level. Work is often performed inharsh outdoor weather environments including sun, heat, cold, snow, wind, rain,etc.
AFSCME Full-Time Position
This is a Full-time AFSCME Bargaining Unit Position, Grade04. Full-time AFSCME bargaining unit employees at Cuyahoga CommunityCollege will be considered first for vacant positions.
Target Hiring Rate
Minimum salary $48,651.20/annually
