Job summary

Cuyahoga Community College seeks a part-time Maintenance Mechanic to repair and maintain facilities and equipment. You will perform carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, and mechanical tasks, and assist with installation of mechanical systems.

The role requires the ability to read and follow safety instructions, work independently, and meet OSHA standards. Schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00am-11:00am, with pay starting at $27.29 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of work experience in a building maintenance environment as a commercial/industrial Maintenance Mechanic OR completion of vocational/apprenticeship program.
  • Knowledge of all types of tools in the trade.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed work and safety instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties associated with repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment across carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, or mechanical tasks.
  • Assists in installation of mechanical equipment.
  • Repairs mechanical plant equipment such as vehicles, motors, pumps, mowers, tractors, refrigeration and heating equipment.
  • May perform duties in roofing, plastering, tile, glass, metal working, welding, masonry, and painting.
  • Installs and repairs hardware; repairs furniture and related fittings.
  • Operates and maintains HVAC systems and other equipment.
  • Directs Maintenance Mechanic Helpers or Yard Maintenance Mechanic Helpers when needed.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and OSHA standards.

SUMMARY


Performsduties associated with the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Dutiesand Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • *Performs duties associated with the repair andmaintenance of buildings and equipment involving carpentry, electrical,plumbing, painting, welding, or mechanical skills.

  • Assistsin the installation of mechanical equipment.

  • *Repairs mechanical plant equipment, such as, vehicles,motors, pumps, mowers, tractors, refrigeration and heating equipment.

  • *May perform duties involved in roofing, plastering,tile, glass, metal working, welding, masonry, and painting.

  • Installsand repairs hardware.

  • Repairsfurniture, utility lines and related fittings.

  • Installssecondary electrical lines.

  • Operatesand maintains HVAC systems including monitoring, analyzing and adjustingautomated and/or computer controlled systems.

  • Operatesall machinery and equipment necessary to perform duties.

  • DirectsMaintenance Mechanic Helpers or Yard Maintenance Mechanic Helpers whoassist in the completion of projects.

  • Meetsall job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards thatpertain to the essential functions of the position.

  • Accessesand utilizes College-prescribed software programs, including but notlimited to training, email, payroll and maintenance management system.

  • Performsother related duties as assigned.*denotes Essential Function


QUALIFICATIONS


Required



  • Five (5)years of work experience in a building maintenance environment as acommercial/industrial Maintenance Mechanic – OR – a completed vocationalor apprenticeship program.

  • Knowledgeof all types of tools in the trade.

  • Abilityto read and follow detailed work and safety instructions.

  • Abilityto work independently.

  • Skillsin keyboarding, basic math and grammar, and basic or standard wordprocessing (MS Word) and/or spreadsheet applications (MS Excel).

  • Proficiencywith an email software package (MS Outlook) and the Internet.

  • Must beable to meet College insurability requirements.

  • Must beat least 18 years of age.

  • Musthave sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of the community.


Preferred



  • Associate’sdegree in a job-related field.

  • Ability todirect a small work crew.

  • Experiencewith electronic work order system.

  • Understanding/experiencewith quality programs and initiatives.

  • Tradelicensure or certification.

  • LTO(Lift-Truck-Operator) license.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICALDEMANDS


Mustbe able to occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl,taste and smell. Must be able to frequentlystand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, andtalk or hear. Must be able to lift up to50 pounds without assistance. Must havecolor vision. Must be able tooccasionally work in wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places,work with fumes or airborne particles, toxics or caustic chemicals, work in extremecold and heat (non-weather) and work with risk of electrical shock, vibrationand bio-hazards. Must be able to regularly work near moving mechanical partsand in outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to work in an environment witha loud noise level.


This is a Part-Time an AFSCME Bargaining Unit Position, Grade 06. Part-Time an AFSCME bargaining unit employees at Cuyahoga Community College will be considered first for vacant positions.


Target Hiring Rate: Minimum salary $27.29/hr
