Job summary

Hale Trailer Brake & Wheel, Inc is seeking an experienced Yard Jockey with a CDL A license for our Baltimore, MD location. The role involves yard utility tasks, trailer staging, and basic mechanical and maintenance work to support our trailer dealership operations.

The candidate will assist technicians, operate a forklift for container handling, and ensure safe, organized yard conditions while following DOT, OSHA, and company policies. A competitive benefits package is offered.

Responsibilities

• Perform yard utility functions, stage trailers in yard, and coordinate with Service Dept.
• Assist technicians with moving equipment, trailers, or materials as needed.
• Operate a forklift safely to stack/unstack containers up to 40’ and manage deck/undock tasks.
• Perform routine inspections of yard equipment and report maintenance needs.
• Maintain yard, shop, and surrounding area in clean, orderly condition.
• Support seasonal facility tasks and outdoor work in varying weather.

Hale Trailer Brake & Wheel, Inc is a multi-location, full-service trailer dealership with an immediate opening at its Baltimore, MD branch location. We are looking for an experienced Yard Jockey with a CDL A license to join our team of trailer professionals. This individual will perform a variety of yard utility functions, as well as basic mechanical and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Perform yard utility functions, staging trailers in yard, bringing trailers into shop for repairs, parking trailers outside for customer pickups, working in coordination with Service Department schedule and supervisors.


• Assist technicians and shop personnel with moving equipment, trailers, or materials as needed.


• Operate a forklift in a safe manner for stacking and unstacking 20’ and 40’ containers as well as decking and undecking up to a triple stack of flats.


• Perform routine inspections of yard equipment and report maintenance needs.


• Perform general facility maintenance including minor repairs, building upkeep, and equipment maintenance.


• Ensure all containers and trailers are safely and securely parked at the end of each day.


• Maintain order and cleanliness of the yard, shop, and surrounding property.


• Support snow removal, landscaping, and seasonal facility maintenance tasks.


• Work outdoors at times, in varying weather conditions.


• Perform tasks in an efficient, timely, accurate, professional and safe manner in accordance with all Company policies, DOT, OSHA and other governmental standards and regulations.

Requirements:

• Must have meaningful / practical work experience as a yard jockey and/or CDL Driver.


• Must have a current CDL Class A license with current medical certification with a minimum of 2 years trailer driving experience with no accidents, suspensions or moving violations for past 3 years.


• Must have a strong knowledge regarding the safe handling and operation of trailers, tractors, containers, field offices, forklifts, power jacks, lift gates, power tools, trailer parts and supplies.


• Must have basic mechanical and/or facility maintenance experience.


• Must have good communication skills, be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude.


• Must be able to work independently in a fast paced and dynamic environment.


• Must adhere to all Company policies including safety policies.


• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., stand, bend and climb as needed for extended periods.


• Must pass a standard pre-employment drug test and physical.
