Job summary

Kronospan in Anniston, AL is seeking a Yard Jockey to safely move trailers and containers, keep dock doors supplied, and maintain an organized yard for smooth freight flows. You will record trailer locations and support inbound/outbound shipments.

Ideal candidates have 0–1+ years in similar roles, are comfortable outdoors in all weather, and can operate YMS and handheld scanners. Strong teamwork and clear communication are essential; CDL-A may be required at some sites.

Qualifications

• 0–1+ years in yard jockey, spotter, or truck driver roles; training provided.
• Basic use of yard management system, scanners, tablets, and radio.
• Ability to work in extreme outdoor conditions (rain, heat, cold, dust).
• Read and follow JHSAs, specs and work instructions.
• Perform routine equipment and material inspections.
• Assist in installing or improving equipment and systems.
• Execute preventive maintenance as scheduled.
• Strong teamwork, attendance, and safety-first mindset.
• Clear communication with management and peers.
• Valid driver's license; CDL Class A if site requires.

Job Description

The primary purpose of the Yard Jockey is to safely and efficiently move trailers and containers throughout the facility yard, keeping dock doors supplied on schedule, the yard organized, and trailer locations accurately recorded, so that inbound and outbound freight flows without delay

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 0–1+ years as a yard jockey, spotter, or truck driver preferred – logistics, warehousing, distribution, or manufacturing – experience backing, hooking, and unhooking trailers. Training provided for the right candidate.
• Basic use of handheld scanners, tablets, or a yard management system (YMS); two-way radio
• Must be able to work in extreme conditions including rain, heat, cold, and dust.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow all JHSAs, technical specifications, and work instructions for the assigned process task.
• Ability to perform routine mechanical and quality inspections of equipment and raw materials.
• Ability to assist in the installation of all new equipment, components, and systems, or the improvement of existing equipment, components, and systems as required.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance procedures as scheduled or directed.
• Strong sense of teamwork and cooperation; must be dedicated and have an excellent attendance record.
• A positive attitude, open mind, and controlled composure in all workplace interactions.
• Strong sense of urgency and the ability to work without constant supervision.
• Ability to effectively communicate with management and peers
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL Class A if required by the site).
• Precise trailer backing and strong spatial awareness.
• Clear communication, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather, climb in and out of the cab frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• The ability to perform intermediate to advanced mobile equipment mechanic work
• The ability to work with electric, pneumatic, or hand tools.
