Job summary

Kronospan is hiring a Laboratory Technician in Simsboro, LA. You will perform test methods (physical, chemical, statistical) and maintain lab equipment to ensure compliance with standards.

Responsibilities include startup/shutdown of lab equipment, material inspections, sample preparation, and data trends communication to leadership in a safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of associates.
  • Demonstrated high energy level and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use tools safely.

Job description

The primary purpose of the Laboratory Technician’s position is to perform assigned tasks, including but not limited to, the various test methods and analysis of data to determine compliance to specified standards. These test methods will be physical, chemical, and statistical in nature. The technician will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all equipment in the lab and the tracking and maintenance of various data collections. In addition, the Lab Technician may be called upon to determine trends and present data to facility leadership team members in order to initiate appropriate actions.

  • Read, comprehend, and follow all JHSAs, technical specifications, and work instructions for the assigned process task.
  • Start up, operate, and shut down all equipment related to the laboratory
  • Conduct quality inspections of raw and in-process materials and communicate results.
  • Prepare panel samples in accordance with standardized requirements.
  • Conduct basic chemistry tasks related to raw materials, finished product, and other assigned areas.
  • Understand customer-specific board applications and ensure timely product releases based on customer needs.
  • Assist in the installation of all new equipment, components, and systems, or the improvement of existing equipment, components, and systems as required.
  • Dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with corporate policy and state and federal regulations.
  • Communicate with external organizations as required regarding Laboratory processes and results.
  • Present quality trends to plant leadership to facilitate appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work closely with all team members, supervision, and leadership to identify, report, and correct existing or potential safety hazards, quality issues, productivity improvements, or cost reduction initiatives.
  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures on laboratory equipment as scheduled or directed.
  • Complete all required safety, quality, and production documentation.
  • Communicate with the production team on any quality issues observed in the plant.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor or a member of leadership
  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of associates.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Demonstrated high energy level, strong work ethic, and positive approach to problem solving.
  • Advanced computer skills including experience using Microsoft office products including Word and Excel.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • The ability to use power tools, measuring devices, and other hand tools.
  • The ability to work with others in identifying and solving complex problems.
  • The ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  • Ability to work in conditions of extreme heat and cold
  • Ability to work at high levels from a personnel lift
  • Ability to drive a lift truck
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for job awards per the Associate Handbook
  • Must have a valid driver's license
