Job summary

Kronospan is seeking a Yard Jockey in Alabama to safely move trailers and containers across the facility yard, keep dock doors supplied on schedule, and accurately record trailer locations to support smooth inbound and outbound freight flows.

The role requires basic yard equipment skills, ability to operate scanners and yard management systems, and a strong safety mindset. Training is provided; outdoor work in all weather is expected, with lifting up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• 0–1+ years in yard jockey/spotter or related roles.
• Experience backing, hooking, and unhooking trailers.
• Basic use of handheld scanners, tablets, or a yard management system (YMS).
• Must work in extreme conditions including rain, heat, cold, and dust.
• Able to read and follow JHSAs, specs, and work instructions.
• Ability to inspect equipment and materials.
• Assist in installing and improving equipment as needed.
• Strong teamwork and excellent attendance.

Job Description

The primary purpose of the Yard Jockey is to safely and efficiently move trailers and containers throughout the facility yard, keeping dock doors supplied on schedule, the yard organized, and trailer locations accurately recorded, so that inbound and outbound freight flows without delay

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• 0–1+ years as a yard jockey, spotter, or truck driver preferred – logistics, warehousing, distribution, or manufacturing – experience backing, hooking, and unhooking trailers. Training provided for the right candidate.
• Basic use of handheld scanners, tablets, or a yard management system (YMS); two-way radio
• Must be able to work in extreme conditions including rain, heat, cold, and dust.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow all JHSAs, technical specifications, and work instructions for the assigned process task.
• Ability to perform routine mechanical and quality inspections of equipment and raw materials.
• Ability to assist in the installation of all new equipment, components, and systems, or the improvement of existing equipment, components, and systems as required.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance procedures as scheduled or directed.
• Strong sense of teamwork and cooperation; must be dedicated and have an excellent attendance record.
• A positive attitude, open mind, and controlled composure in all workplace interactions.
• Strong sense of urgency and the ability to work without constant supervision.
• Ability to effectively communicate with management and peers
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL Class A if required by the site).
• Precise trailer backing and strong spatial awareness.
• Clear communication, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather, climb in and out of the cab frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• The ability to perform intermediate to advanced mobile equipment mechanic work
• The ability to work with electric, pneumatic, or hand tools.
