Job summary

Latvala Lumber Company in Grand Rapids, MN is seeking a reliable Yard Employee/Forklift Driver to load/unload materials, assist customers, and help prepare orders for delivery. You will operate forklifts and delivery trucks safely, keep the yard tidy, and support drivers during busy seasons.

The ideal candidate has a Class D license (or higher), forklift certification (training provided), a clean driving record, and a valid DOT health card or ability to obtain within 1 month.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Unload material by inspecting vendor deliveries, verifying counts, labeling as needed, and locating items.
• Load trucks safely and according to driver preferences.
• Assist customers with loading purchases and orders.
• Build orders using forklifts as needed to complete deliveries.
• Maintain a clean, safe warehouse and lumber yard.
• Perform winter snow removal and routine maintenance as directed.
• Back up delivery drivers and other positions when required.

We have a wide variety of delivery trucks in our fleet – we strive to keep our trucks as up to date and as well maintained as possible.

Job Summary

The Yard Employee/Forklift Driver is someone who mainly loads and unloads supplier deliveries, loads and unloads our trucks, assists with pulling orders for delivery, and assists customers with loading up their purchases.

Main Responsibilites

• Receive material by unloading vendor trucks, verify counts and product for accuracy, label as needed, and locate in an appropriate location.
• Load trucks in a safe and efficient manner – working with the drivers how they would like it loaded if any preference.
• Assist customers with loading their purchases/orders.
• Assist in building orders of construction materials as ordered using forkliftswhen necessary.
• Maintain a clean and safe warehouse and lumber yard.
• Restock building materials as needed.
• Assist with putting away returns.

Secondary Responsibilities

• Backup delivery driver or be able to go with/assist with a delivery when needed.
• Backup other positions as needed and directed by Management.
• Move snow in the wintertime using a variety of equipment including shovels, snowblower, and snowplows.
• Assist with general maintenance of trucks, forklifts, equipment, and buildings.
• Other tasks assigned by Management.

Education

• High School Diploma preferred, but previous work experience will suffice.

Experience

• Previous experience working with construction materials preferred.

Requirements

• Class D Driver’s License or higher
• Able to be certified in operating forklifts – certification will be provided if needed.
• Clean Driving Record
• DOT Health card or ability to get within 1 month of employment (Company Provided)

Skills and Competencies

• Good Customer Service Skills (on job site and in the yard).
• Proficient in reading a pick ticket to build orders accurately and efficientlyin a timely manner when needed.
• Technological aptitude.
• Able to adapt quickly as needed, especially during the busier portion of the building season.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

• Work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects from 25-125lbs.
• Ability to adapt between sitting frequently for varying periods of time and hauling materials of different sizes, weights, and fragility as the job demands.
