Job summary

Crosslin Building Supply Inc is seeking a hands-on Lumber Yard Manager to lead a team of CDL drivers, forklift operators, and laborers in daily yard operations. You will oversee receiving, storage, and distribution of materials, enforce safety standards, conduct coaching and reviews, and maintain tight communication across departments.

  • Forklift and/or Moffett experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide structured guidance and leadership for a lumber yard team, including employee management, establish performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, strategic problem-resolution, and maintain open lines of communication.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the yard, ensuring efficient and effective management of all activities; coordinate with departments for receipt, storage, and distribution of materials.
  • Oversee CDL Drivers, Forklift Drivers, and General Laborers throughout daily lumber yard and delivery operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized lumber yard and inventory bays by operating forklifts to distribute materials and manage inventory lists.
  • Actively cross-train associates inter-departmentally.
  • Conduct regular coaching and performance discussions to recognize positive performance and address areas requiring improvement.
  • Delegate work activities across the lumber yard while assisting staff in standard operations and addressing performance gaps.
  • Identify, report, and resolve inventory discrepancies to maintain stock levels and minimize losses.
  • Verify all incoming/outgoing shipments for accuracy and timely delivery, report discrepancies to Operations Manager.
  • Schedule and coordinate deliveries according to customer needs, inventory levels, sales schedules, and driver availability.
  • Ensure all yard employees comply with safety practices and regulations.
  • Oversee loading activities to ensure compliance with shipping specifications and safety guidelines.
  • Verify maintenance on yard equipment and keep records.
  • Submit all receiving paperwork (delivery, picking, loading tickets, invoices) daily to store office.
  • Ensure all shipments are accurate before delivery release and that yard areas are secured at day end.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned by the Operations Manager.
  • Immediately report any safety concerns or injuries to the Operations Manager.
  • Perform other assignments as needed by management.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the yard, ensuring efficient and effective management of all activities. Coordinate with various departments to ensure timely and accurate receipt, storage, and distribution of materials.

  • Oversee CDL Drivers, Forklift Drivers, and General Laborers throughout daily lumber yard and delivery operations.

  • Maintain a clean and organized lumber yard and inventory bays by operating forklifts to distribute incoming and outgoing materials, managing a detailed inventory list, and inventory management

  • Actively cross-train associates inter-departmentally.

  • Conduct regular coaching and performance discussions to recognize positive performance and address areas requiring improvement.

  • Delegate work activities across the lumber yard as needed while also assisting all subordinate employees in standard lumber yard operations performance and address areas requiring improvement.

  • Proactively identify, report, and resolve all inventory discrepancies to maintain proper stock levels and minimize company loss

  • Verify all incoming and outgoing shipments to confirm accuracy and timely delivery, report discrepancies in shipments to Operations Manager

  • Schedule and coordinate deliveries according to customer needs, inventory levels, sales schedules, and driver availability

  • Ensure all employees within the lumberyard remain compliant with all applicable safety practices and regulations

  • Oversee loading activities to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, loading guidelines, and safety regulations

  • Verify all maintenance performed on Crosslin Lumber yard equipment

  • Submit all receiving paperwork, including delivery tickets, picking tickets, loading tickets, and invoices, to the store office each day

  • Verify that all incoming and outgoing material shipments are accurate and complete prior to accepting/releasing for delivery

  • Ensure all areas of the yard are secured prior to ending each working day

  • Perform all opening and closing procedures each day as assigned and communicated by the Operations Manager

  • Immediately report any safety and/or injury details to the Operations Manager

  • Other assignments as needed by management


Requirements

EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • High School Diploma/GED Strongly Preferred

  • College Experience Strongly Preferred

  • Previous Management Experience Required

  • Lumber Industry Experience Strongly Preferred

  • Forklift and/or Moffett Experience Preferred


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds individually or up to 160 pounds with a partner

  • Ability to stand and/or walk on hard surfaces for long periods of time

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and other weather elements
