Responsibilities

The X-ray Technologist is responsible for obtaining diagnostic radiographic examinations. Key duties include:

1. Producing diagnostic radiographs by positioning patients, using immobilization devices, shielding, and selecting appropriate technical factors based on individual needs. Operating equipment for specific procedures.
2. Gathering relevant information from medical records, healthcare providers, and patients to prepare protocols, ensuring patient safety.
3. Following ALARA principles to restrict radiation exposure through proper collimation.
4. Performing portable X-ray examinations in various settings such as patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.
5. Ensuring accurate identification and marking of images with patient details.
6. Processing and reconstructing images using available methods.
7. Maintaining an orderly X-ray room and supplies.
8. Preparing and administering contrast media as needed.
9. Performing administrative duties like scheduling, record-keeping, and patient instructions.
10. Assisting patients with mobility and positioning for exams.
11. Adhering to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, and participating in on-call duties as required.
12. Following hospital policies and standards, including safety and quality assurance.

Qualifications

Required education and skills include:

• High School diploma or GED.
• Completion of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office or Google Suite.

Licenses and Certifications

• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification.
• New Jersey State license for Diagnostic Radiology.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire.
