Job description

Description

Perform radiological duties in compliance with x-ray department and legal requirements. Help patients feel comfortable during the entire process. Perform selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a physician. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

X-Ray Technician:

  1. Prepare patients for radiological procedures and take X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.
  2. Protect patients, yourself and staff from radiation exposure by practicing sound procedures which meet or exceed recommended industry standards.
  3. Develop and process radiological film.
  4. Obtain quality diagnostic radiographs as requested by physicians. Maintain a repeat rate of two percent or less.
  5. Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  6. Report immediately any equipment malfunctions to Supervisor.
  7. Log completed radiological procedures. Complete paperwork accurately and on time.
  8. Identify and file reports as required.
  9. Maintain examination rooms. Stock necessary office and radiological supplies.
  10. Request, retrieve and track films to and from other departments or centers.
  11. Work closely with the physician to receive guidance and instruction for treating patients.

General:

  1. Compile and condense technical and statistical data for reports and records.
  2. Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  3. Complete appropriate documentation on all patients examined.
  4. Maintain appropriate communication and good interpersonal skills with Supervisors, staff and patients to ensure coordinated efforts and provision of high quality service.
  5. Utilize formal channels of communication to report concerns, personal requests and patient issues.
  6. Respect patients' right to privacy and confidentiality.
  7. Maintain an orderly and professional working atmosphere.
  8. Report to work properly dressed according to the approved dress code.
  9. Adhere to guidelines concerning working hours and break periods.
  10. Manage time effectively to complete all patient treatments and related activities as assigned.
  11. Maintain professional standards and procedures ensuring compliance with corporate policies and with applicable regulations.
  12. Perform related administrative duties as required.
  13. Take all necessary precautions to protect center assets and property against loss or waste through negligence or dishonesty.
  14. Demonstrate support to other co-workers by offering help.
  15. Assist in the solution of problems as directed by Supervisor.
  16. Perform related work as required.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

X-Ray Technician:

  1. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to perform x-ray testing.
  2. Knowledge of radiology equipment.
  3. Skill in properly positioning patients.
  4. Skill in identifying equipment problems.
  5. Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement.

General:

  1. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  2. Knowledge of medical practice and organizational policies to administer patient care.
  3. Knowledge of examination and diagnostic procedures.
  4. Knowledge of use and maintenance of radiological equipment and instruments.
  5. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  6. Skill in documenting and maintaining patient care records.
  7. Skill in identifying and communicating problems to the supervisor.
  8. Skill in following medical quality assurance and quality control standards.
  9. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and other staff.
  10. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  11. Ability to communicate clearly with patients and other staff.
  12. Good oral and written communication skills in English.
  13. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under high pressure situations.
  14. Good telephone manners and etiquette.
  15. Detail orientation and organization.
  16. Flexibility in working hours to handle variation in the inflow of patients and cover the needs of the department.

Education, Licenses/Certification

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of course in limited-scope/basic/LMRT/NCT radiological course; completion of medical assistant program.
  2. Limited/Basic/NCT/LMRT certification in Radiology preferred; certification obtained from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

The base salary is determined on the candidate's education, qualifications, and experience, and is subject to change based on various internal and external factors.
