Job summary

The City of Pueblo is seeking an Assistant WWTP Superintendent to lead daily operations of the Water Reclamation Facility. This exempt role reports to the WWTP Superintendent and can operate with limited supervision while directing plant activities and staff.

The position emphasizes regulatory compliance, safety programs, and staff development, including coordination with the Regulatory Compliance Specialist and other city departments.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in a related field.
• Colorado Class A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate or equivalent with ability to obtain Colorado certification through reciprocity within 12 months.
• Six years of progressive experience in a large wastewater treatment facility (>4 MGD).
• Minimum of two years in a supervisory capacity preferred.
• Valid driver’s license at time of application; valid Colorado license within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Oversees facility operation to meet all regulatory requirements.
• Makes staffing and process-control recommendations; schedules operation activities.
• Acts as Operator in Responsible Charge during absences of the WWTP Superintendent.
• Helps manage biosolids programs and maintains required reports and records.
• Provides staff training in treatment operations, equipment maintenance, and safe operation.
