Job summary

Orono WPCF in Orono, ME is seeking an entry level Wastewater Laborer to assist in operating the treatment facility, pump stations, and collection system.

The position features a 4 day / 40 hour week (10 hour days) with on-call duties, and a benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance plus vacation and holidays.

Duties include routine laboratory tasks for process control, maintenance of equipment, sewer cleaning, vegetation control along right of ways, and on-call rotation.

Job description

The Orono, Maine WPCF is currently seeking applicants for the entry level position of Wastewater Laborer. The purpose of this position is to assist in the operation of the wastewater treatment facility, pump stations, collection system and solids handling facilities.

Duties would include but not limited to the following:

• Perform routine Laboratory duties for process control


• Assist in the maintenance and repair of plant and pump station equipment


• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance activities of the sanitary sewer collection system


• Assist in the clearing of vegetation from sewer right of ways and other ground maintenance


• Will be required to handle on-call duties with other staff members on a rotating basis


• Perform other duties that may be assigned

Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to communicate effectively and be respectful with the general public


• Mechanical knowledge of machinery and equipment


• Knowledge of basic computer applications


• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other staff


• Ability to work safely with equipment and machinery in an industrial setting

The work schedule is 4 day / 40 hour per week (10hr days). The Town of Orono offers competitive pay with benefits that include. Health Insurance, Dental and eye care . Earned Vacation Time, Sick Time and 13 Paid Holidays. Orono also participates in the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.

Pay range for this position is $22.42 - $30.78/hour depending on experience.
