Workers' Compensation Paralegal

About the role

We're looking for a bilingual paralegal (English and Spanish) to join our Workers' Compensation team. You'll handle cases from the day a client signs until settlement. That means building the file, talking with clients in their language, and keeping each case moving through the NC Industrial Commission. If you like being organized, staying on top of details, and being the person clients trust to explain what's going on, you'll fit in well here.

What you'll do

Case management

• Open new matters in our case management system (Clio Work/Manage) once the client signs, and set up the electronic file
• Figure out which medical records and bills a case needs, then request and track them
• Collect wage information (pay stubs, Form 22, pay history) and confirm wages are verified, including any underpayment or back pay owed
• File Form 33 hearing requests and draft motions, interrogatories, and job description letters
• Work in the NCIC portal: upload documents, watch the preliminary hearing docket, and review Commission mail
• Check for liens and request them, then reconfirm them before settlement
• Get cases ready for mediation and hearings, including prep checklists and sending records to defense counsel on denied claims
• Spot when a case is ready for a demand, mediation, or Form 26A, and put together the demand information
• Handle Medicare Set-Aside notices, Form 24 filings, and claim withdrawals when they come up
• Walk clients through the clincher (settlement) agreement and get settlement authority

Client care

• Run new client intakes and collect the first documents
• Answer client calls and keep clients updated, in English and Spanish
• Help clients get ready for medical appointments, and check in one week before mediations and hearings

What we're looking for

• Fluent in English, both spoken and written (required), Spanish is a plus!
• 1+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience; NC workers' comp experience is a big plus
• Strong organization skills and comfort juggling a busy caseload
• Clear, patient communication with clients who may be stressed or in pain
• Comfortable with case management software, Microsoft 365, and online filing portals
• Paralegal certificate or NC certification preferred, not required

Schedule

Monday through Thursday, 8:30am to 5:30pm, and Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. In office in Charlotte.
