Job description

Semmes, Bowen & Semmes has an immediate opening for a Paralegal with experience in workers' compensation and insurance defense.

We offer a flexible work environment with options for hybrid work. Initially, the position requires in-office presence 5 days a week for the first 90-180 days.

Semmes operates in a paperless office environment.

Compensation: $50,000 to $80,000 annually, including bonus

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

1. Excellent communication and software skills (e.g., Word, Outlook, e-filing).
2. Experience in workers’ compensation and understanding of applicable laws and procedures.
3. Ability to gather information from clients through effective questioning.
4. Strong communication skills to address client inquiries.
5. Monitor claim progress by communicating with healthcare providers, adjusters, and agencies.
6. Review and organize medical records, documents, wage info, and employer records for case preparation.
7. Manage incoming mail and prioritize tasks.
8. Coordinate attorney calendars, scheduling, and travel.
9. Update hearing folders and send out post-hearing correspondence.
10. Open new files and ensure smooth practice operations.
11. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
12. Typing speed of 60-70 WPM.
13. Track billable time daily.
14. Draft legal documents and correspondence, proofread, and format accurately.
15. Prepare court filings (paper and electronic).
16. Organize and manage electronic and paper documents.
17. Ensure timely document entry into the firm’s docket system.
