Semmes, Bowen & Semmes - Paralegal Position

Semmes, Bowen & Semmes has an immediate opening for a Paralegal with experience in workers' compensation and insurance defense.

We offer a flexible work environment with options for hybrid work. This position will require you to be in the office 5 days per week for the first 90-180 days.

Semmes is a paperless office environment.

Compensation: $50,000 to $80,000 annually including bonus

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

• Excellent communication and software skills (e.g., Word, Outlook, e-filing, etc.).
• Experience in workers’ compensation and understanding of related laws and procedures.
• Gather information from clients by asking informative questions beneficial for their claims.
• Strong communication skills to address client questions.
• Monitor claim progress by communicating with healthcare providers, adjusters, and agencies across states.
• Review and organize medical records, documents, wage info, and employer records to prepare cases for mediation, hearings, or trials.
• Manage incoming mail and prioritize tasks.
• Coordinate attorney calendars, scheduling, and travel plans.
• Update hearing folders and send follow-up letters post-hearing.
• Open new files and ensure smooth practice operations.
• Possess excellent critical thinking and organizational skills.
• Typing speed of at least 60-70 WPM.
• Track billable time daily.
• Prepare legal documents and correspondence accurately and timely; draft, proofread, and format documents.
• Handle court filings, both paper and electronic.
• Organize and manage electronic and paper documents, ensuring timely docket entries.
