Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; six months workers' compensation experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree is a significant plus but not required.
  • Proficient keyboarding (45 wpm) and working knowledge of medical/legal terminology.
  • Proficient in Word; follow written/spoken instructions; produce accurate, detailed work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; courteous telephone skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Execute benefit and medical payments on assigned claim files under supervision.
  • Maintain documentation of all claim activities in the electronic filing system.
  • Draft and distribute official correspondence; manage mail and faxes.
  • Facilitate flow of claim information between clients, counsel, providers, and staff.
  • Manage professional telephonic communications, including call screening and message coordination.
  • Handle incoming calls and professional inquiries; perform additional administrative tasks.

POSITION SUMMARY: TRISTAR is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Claims Assistant to join our Portland team. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals interested in advancing to a Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster role in Oregon and/or Washington.If you are a professional communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses a strong work ethic, we want to hear from you. Under close supervision, clerical and data-entry tasks are performed to assist in the administration of workers’ compensation claims.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Execute benefit and medical payments on assigned claim files under the direction of the Claims Examiner.Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of all claim activities within the electronic filing system.Draft and distribute official correspondence and manage all outgoing mail and faxes.Facilitate the flow of pertinent claim information between clients, legal counsel, medical/rehab providers, and internal staff.Manage professional telephonic communications, including call screening and message coordination.Managed incoming calls and professional inquiries.Perform additional administrative tasks as required to support the claims department.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Education/Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required.While not required, we prefer candidates with at least six months of experience in workers' compensation claims.A Bachelor’s degree is a significant plus.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Proficient keyboarding skills (type 45 wpm).Working knowledge of medical/legal terminology.Proficient in Word.Ability to follow written and spoken instructions from several individuals.Ability to produce accurate and detailed work.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Courteous telephone skills.Ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and due dates.Ability to work independently, as well as in cooperation with workgroup.Mental and Physical Requirements:MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS1.
